CAREERS AT LISTER WILDER

We are big believers in developing peoples talents from an early age.  With this in mind we are always keen to open the door for work experience as this gives students a fascinating insight into our business.  Some fall in love with the idea of repairing machinery for a living, and for the most naturally gifted of these people, we offer access to the Kubota Apprenticeship scheme.  This provides a lovely blend of college-based learning alongside quality time with our team of expert engineers…and a combination that accelerates your development and sets you on the pathway to becoming a Groundcare, Agricultural or Construction Service Engineer of tomorrow.

For more details on either the Work Experience or the Kubota Apprenticeship scheme, please contact Karen Martin – karen@listerwilder.co.uk

Current Roles

Groundcare Service Engineer

Reading

Full Desc

About the role…

We are currently looking for a very experienced Service Engineer to work on a variety of Groundcare products.  Based at our Reading branch you would be joining a very knowledgeable and friendly team with a good mix of age and experience and whilst the work is technically challenging, we look to provide a well-structured training program that works in conjunction with Kubota UK.  Much of the repair and service work is carried out on-site and so a fully expensed vehicle will be provided. The mainly mobile role means that every day is different, but you still retain the support of the base at Reading and the majority of our work tends to be with contractors, councils, schools, golf courses and private estates within Berkshire and the surrounding area.

About you

Full product training will be provided but we are looking to work with someone who already has a very solid foundation, ideally possessing extensive knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, electrics and hydraulics. Many of these skills will be interchangeable from related industries but previous experience with Construction or Groundcare machinery would be ideal. It’s also important that you are comfortable in front of the customer as you’ll be speaking to many of them about the service, repair, diagnostic or warranty work that you have undertaken and ensuring they are happy with the job before moving on to the next.

We value the role of the service engineer extremely highly. This is not only reflected in the way you are treated but we try to make sure that our pay is amongst the best in the industry.

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday: 8am – 5pm. Friday: 8am – 4pm

PDI Construction Engineer

Reading

Full Desc

We have steadily grown to become the UK’s largest supplier of Kubota compact tractors, mini excavators and diesel ride-on mowers. As well as having a great product to sell, much of our success can be attributed to the outstanding aftersales support that our workshops are able to provide, and we are now looking for an additional Construction Engineer to carry out our Pre-Delivery Inspections.

The ideal candidate will be a good all-round engineer, with a real eye for detail, who will be responsible for assembling, checking and signing off new machines prior to delivery to the end-user.

Based from our Reading branch, you need a good understanding of engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrics but we would be keen to develop your existing skills with a structured training plan at Kubota UK.

If you are looking for a strong and stable career, at a branch that has a friendly atmosphere, then please make contact us.

Apprentice Service Engineer (Groundcare & Construction)

Reading & Guildford

Full Desc

About the role…

As a Groundcare and Construction Service Apprentice, you will be joining an experienced team of Field Service Engineers who will pass their knowledge onto the next generation.  The work is extremely varied and will see you working on Kubota’s range of Tractors and ride-on mowers – the kind that are used by Golf Courses, Councils, Private Estates and Sports Grounds.  Some of this takes place within our workshops, but much is out on-site where you begin with the basics of servicing before moving onto repairs, diagnostics and fault finding

The apprenticeship is run in conjunction with Kubota, with block release at college and then you will spend time with us to develop what you have learnt during your time away.

At college, you will cover mechanical principles, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and electrics – in fact, everything you need to build a sound engineering foundation.

On the assumption that you pass the apprenticeship, you will be well on the way to getting a service van of your own, and the beginnings of what should be the start of a very long and rewarding career.

About you…

You need to be able to work in a team and independently as necessary, to be punctual and self-motivated.  You will have good communication skills, asking questions and listening to and acting upon answers.  To be of a reliable and honest nature.  Candidates will need to demonstrate good hand-eye coordination and a mechanical aptitude.  To be able to enjoy the challenge of working in an industry with the diverse range of equipment that is employed.

Qualifications required: Ideally, you will have gained – GCSE grade 4 and above including Maths and English language and ideally a Science.

Service Manager

Guildford

Full Desc

An internal promotion now means that we are looking for a professional Service Manager to work from our branch near Guildford. You would be in charge of managing customer calls and expectations, organising and prioritising work, managing and motivating our team of engineers, meeting monthly financial targets, handling and resolving customer queries, overseeing the warranty account and ensuring the workshop communicates effectively with both the parts and sales team.

It’s a complete job where you have ownership from the initial call from the customer, through to ensuring the final invoice is paid. That’s not to say you are alone, you have the full support and resources from the company, and you would be working alongside our Groundcare Service Director, but you also have the opportunity to identify issues and make changes. You therefore need a sensible head for business and to be someone who understands what constitutes great customer service. This then needs to be delivered in a friendly but professional way to ensure our customers keep coming back year after year.

Outstanding administration and communication skills are vital but a sound working knowledge of machinery gives credence when discussing issues with engineers, customers and suppliers. The ability to juggle between jobs, prioritise work and remain calm during our busy times is also important, but if you are looking for your next challenge then we would be very interested in talking to you.

Groundcare or Agricultural experience would be an advantage or a Motor Vehicle or Commercial Vehicle Background

Health & Safety Manager - NEBOSH

Cirencester/Bibury

Full Desc

We are looking to recruit a Health & Safety Manager – a bright, practical, proactive individual who can work with us to engage the whole team and ensure that policies are adopted that create safe environment for our staff and customers alike.

At the heart of the work will be regular depot visits so we can be confident all existing policies are working at branch level and provide training where gaps are found. These visits will also create action lists for work that needs to be undertaken – either by members of the team, by outside contractors or simply changes that you could initiate. This work will be signed off with regular meetings with our MD and therefore, the decision-making process is as straight forward as possible. You will also work on a group basis to ensure that companywide policies are both relevant and current, and of course identifying and creating new policies where gaps are found.

A full list of duties is available on request, but it’s not exhaustive – essentially, we are looking for someone who will grow with our organisation and so if you have had around 3 years’ experience in a similar role and have already obtained NEBOSH accreditation then we will happily support you with all further relevant training throughout your career.

Hopefully this advert has made it clear that we’re not looking for an individual with a clipboard who lectures staff. We need you to have a passion for making things better and, if they aren’t being done as they should, you identify the problem and deliver a solution. For the right person, we believe this will be a very rewarding and diverse role.
