Area Sales Manager – Groundcare
With the countryside and machinery playing a prominent part in Lee’s life growing up, it comes as no surprise that his career has taken him in this direction.
Born and bred in South Oxfordshire, Lee took every opportunity to work outdoors both with machinery and livestock as a child. After attending Berkshire College of Agriculture, Lee explored parts of the world before settling down as an Estate Manager for a Vineyard in South Oxfordshire.
“Viticulture is such an interesting industry and it is growing rapidly in the UK. I loved my work at the Vineyard where we were looking after 11 hectares of vines. I ended up doing this for 15 years before deciding that I wanted something different from my career.”
Growing up in prime Lister Wilder territory, Lee was aware of the brand from a young age, whether that was from company sponsorship at Young Farmers competitions or when he was buying machinery in his role as estate manager.
“I have always known Lister Wilder as a reputable company and I have found them a pleasure to deal with over the years. With such a good repour locally and the fantastic service I experienced myself, I naturally looked to them when I was considering a change in my career.”
After managing a vineyard for a considerable time, Lee was on the look-out for a more customer-facing role. Having his own machinery growing up also came with some buying and selling experience and this was something Lee always enjoyed. When the opportunity arose to join Lister Wilder in 2017 as an Area Sales Manager for Groundcare, Lee saw this as a positive career move.
“I am definitely a people person and that is why a sales role was so appealing to me. The best part of my job is the people, I enjoy building relationships both new and existing and finding solutions for our customers businesses. When a customer trusts that my advice will help them solve a problem, I get a real buzz and that is what drives me forward.”
Having encountered good service from Lister Wilder as a customer we wondered what Lee’s thoughts were on the company from behind the scenes as an employee.
“I feel very lucky working for Lister Wilder. We are a great team, a proper working family and ultimately, I feel valued. I can’t do my work without a supportive parts and service department and going out to customers under the Lister Wilder name gives me that confidence, because I know that the customer will be supported consistently even after the sale is done. For me, it is the perfect job with the perfect company.”
Working in the groundcare industry can mean dealing with customers from all walks of life and Lee explains how this is a great positive to the role.
“I really enjoy groundcare sales, we have a huge variation in customers which definitely makes the job interesting. One day I could be working with an estate manager or tree surgeon and the next a school groundsman or builder, our product offering allows us to appeal to these different markets.”
Lister Wilder holds the franchises for well-known brands such as Kubota, Baroness, Roberine, Trimax, Dennis, Grillo, Sisis, Charterhouse and Timberwolf. This allows the company to offer a wide range of products to its customers.
“We have a fantastic portfolio of products, the brands that we offer are absolutely market-leaders. They allow us to give a quality offering to customers across groundcare, agriculture, construction and engines. It makes me very proud.”
